Table of Contents
Objective
This guide explains how to upload a PDF file to Cascade CMS using the 2 Add Images and Other Assets asset factory so it can be linked from pages on your site.
When to Use This Process
Use this process whenever you need to:
Add a downloadable PDF to a webpage
Replace an existing PDF file
Make a PDF available for site visitors to download
Before You Start
You must be logged in to Cascade CMS
You should be in the correct Site Content folder where the PDF belongs
Have the PDF file saved and ready on your computer
Ensure the file name follows conventions (lowercase, hyphenated, no spaces)
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. In the Site Content tree on the left, click on the _assets folder. Then click on the pdf folder. Upload the file directly to the pdf folder, or create a subfolder within the pdf folder.
2. Look for a red plus sign in the topmost header area of the page, and click on + Add Content.
3. Inside the 2 Add Images and Other Assets folder, select PDF from the dropdown menu.
4. Drag and drop a PDF file from somewhere on your computer into the browser window, or choose one from your computer. The File Name will automatically populate with the file name previously given to the PDF file.
Do not use spaces, capital letters, or other special characters in the name of the PDF file.
5. Click Preview Draft. After previewing the draft, click Submit to save the PDF file to the CMS.
6. The PDF file has been successfully saved to the CMS. You should now Publish your file.
7. Click Publish. Select one or more destinations to publish to (Staging and Production).
Please make sure to select both destinations (Staging and Production).
Naming Conventions and Best Practices
Use lowercase letters only.
Replace spaces with hyphens.
Avoid special characters (e.g., %, &, $, @).
Use meaningful names (example:
financial-aid-form.pdf).Store PDFs in the PDF folder or subfolder (e.g.,
/_assets/pdf) so they’re easier to manage and link.
