Insert a PDF Using the WYSIWYG Editor

Objective
This guide explains how to insert (link) a previously uploaded PDF file into a webpage using the WYSIWYG editor in Cascade CMS.
When to Use This Process
Use this process when you need to:
Add a downloadable PDF link to a page
Replace an existing PDF link
Provide supporting documentation for users
The PDF must already be uploaded using 2 Add Images and Other Assets before it can be inserted into a page.
Before You Start
You are logged into Cascade CMS
You have selected the correct site
The PDF file has already been uploaded
The page you want to edit already exists
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Navigate to the Page
In the Asset Tree, locate the page where the PDF link will be added.
Click on the page.
Click Edit.
Step 2: Highlight the Link Text
In the WYSIWYG editor, type the text that will serve as the link (example: Download the Financial Aid Form).
Highlight the text.
Use descriptive link text. Avoid “Click Here.”
Step 3: Insert the PDF Link
Click the Insert/Edit Link icon in the WYSIWYG toolbar.
Choose the option to browse the CMS.
Navigate through the Asset Tree to locate the uploaded PDF.
Select the PDF asset.
Confirm the link selection.
Step 4: Submit Changes
Click Submit to save your edits.
Preview the page to confirm the link works properly.
Step 5: Publish
Open the page.
Click Publish.
Select the appropriate destination (Staging or Production).
Submit the publish job.
If the PDF asset was not previously published, it must also be published for the link to work on the live site.
Accessibility & Best Practices
Use clear, descriptive link text (example: Download 2025 Academic Calendar (PDF)).
Indicate file type when appropriate (PDF).
Ensure the PDF is accessible (tagged properly).
Avoid linking the full URL directly — always use the CMS browse option.
Common Issues & Troubleshooting
PDF link does not work on live site
→ Confirm the PDF asset has been published.
Link opens wrong document
→ Verify you selected the correct PDF from the Asset Tree.
Link text is unclear
→ Update text to describe what the user will download.
