Unpublish an Asset
Table of Contents
Objective
This guide explains how to unpublish an asset in Cascade CMS so it is removed from the live website while remaining stored in the CMS.
When to Use This Process
Use this process when you need to:
Remove a file (PDF, image, document, etc.) from the live site
Temporarily take an asset offline
Replace an outdated asset with a new version
Prevent public access to a specific file
Before You Start
You must be logged in to Cascade CMS
You have permission to publish/unpublish assets
You understand that unpublishing removes the asset from the live site but does not delete it from the CMS
You have verified whether the asset is linked on any live pages
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Select the desired asset from the Site Content menu on the left of the interface..
2. While previewing the asset, click on the ...More tab.
3. Check the destination(s) you would like to have the asset unpublished from.
4. Click Submit.
You can also unpublish assets using the context menu, accessible by right-clicking on any asset.
Important Considerations
Unpublishing does not delete the asset. It remains stored in Cascade CMS.
If the asset is linked on a live page, that link may break after unpublishing.
You must republish the asset if you want it to appear live again.
Workflow approval may be required depending on your site’s configuration.
Best Practices
✔ Confirm whether the asset is used on other pages before unpublishing
✔ Update or remove broken links on associated pages
✔ Publish a replacement asset before unpublishing the old version (if applicable)
✔ Verify removal on the live site after unpublishing
