Redirects are a useful tool in Cascade CMS, used to add a link to on your menu (for to a page that lives elsewhere). Review the following to select your option, then follow the step-by-step instructions to create the redirectThe process to create a new redirect page is similar to adding a standard interior page. However, you could also edit an existing page on your site and convert it to a redirect page. Review the two options below.

Option 1: Build a Redirect Page from Scratch

Create the Folder

  1. Navigate and select the folder in which you want to store your redirect page. This will be the folder under which you want your menu item to appear

  2. Click Add Content >> Folder

  3. Enter a Folder Name (no spaces, all lowercase)

  4. Fill in the Title

  5. Set the checkbox for the field "Display in Menu"
    Option 1 - check the box

  6. Click Submit to save the folder

  7. Edit the index page in this new folder

Create the Interior Standard Page with Redirect Enabled

1. In the Site Content tree on the left, click on the folder name where you wish to create the new folder.

2. Look for a red plus sign in the topmost header area of the page, and click on Add Content.

3. Inside the Common folder, select Default Folder from the dropdown menu.

4. Fill in the Folder Name and Display Name.

The Folder Name will generate the page URL, therefore, it should be all lowercase letters separated by hyphens, without underscores, special characters (e.g. #$%$%^&), or any spaces.

The Display Name will generate the labels for the left navigation, and could include capital letters, special characters, and spaces.

5. Click Submit to save the folder to the CMS.

6. Your new folder should be highlighted in the asset tree to the left. Publish the folder.

Create the Standard Interior Page with Redirect Enabled

1. In the Site Content tree on the left, click on the folder name you just created.

You must create a folder before you can create a page.

2. Look for a red plus sign in the topmost header area of the page, and click on Add Content.

3. Inside the Site Assets folder, select the standard Interior Page template from the dropdown menu.

4. Leave the default Page Name of index.

There should only be one index page per folder. You can create sub-folders within a folder, however, each sub-folder can only contain one index page.

5. Fill out the Metadata information for the page.

6. In the section called Redirect, check the Yes box to enable the redirect.

7. Choose either the internal Cascade page (Internal Link) OR fill in the URL if it is an external link. (including theĀ http://)

8. Click Preview Draft. After previewing the draft, click Submit to save the page to CMS.

9. The page (with redirect) has been successfully saved to the CMS. You must now Publish your page.

10. Select one or more of the outputs to Publish to the destinations selected.

Option 2: Change an Existing Page to a Redirect Page

1. In the Site Content tree on the left, select the page you wish to edit (convert to a redirect page).

2. Once the page has loaded, click Edit.

You can also edit a page by right-clicking on the page name, and selecting the Edit option from the context menu.

3. In the section called Redirect, check the Yes box to enable the redirect.

4. Choose either the internal Cascade page (Internal Link) OR fill in the URL if it is an external link. (including theĀ http://)

If the redirect is enabled, there is no need to delete any of the existing page content. The redirect will override any existing content.

5. Click Preview Draft. After previewing the draft, click Submit to save the page to CMS.
