How to Add an Interior Page

How to Add an Interior Page

Table of Contents

Objective

This guide explains how to create a standard interior page in Cascade CMS using a page template so that content editors can add new pages to their site with consistent structure and design. We offer a variety of Interior Pages to satisfy your content presentation needs.

When to Use This Process

Use this process when you need to:

  • Add new content pages to your website

  • Build pages that follow the standard interior layout

  • Add pages that will appear as part of your site’s navigation

Before You Start

  • You must be logged in to Cascade CMS

  • You have selected the correct site

  • You know which folder (parent) the new page will be created under

  • You have the page content written and ready (text, images, links)

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. In the Site Content tree on the left, click on the folder name where you wish to create the page.

2. Look for a red plus sign in the topmost header area of the page, and click on + Add Content.

3. Inside the 1 Add Pages folder, select one of the Interior Page templates from the dropdown menu.

4. Leave the default Page Name of index.

There should only be one index page per folder. You can create sub-folders within a folder, however, each sub-folder can only contain one index page.

5. Fill out the page’s metadata, including the Display Name, Title, Keywords, and Description.

Metadata Quick Checklist

  • Display Name is clear for internal users

  • Title is under 65 characters and unique

  • Keywords reinforce the page topic

  • Description clearly explains the page and encourages clicks

Please refer to our Page Asset Metadata Cheat Sheet for more tips on how to fill out the Metadata.

6. Fill out the Content Area with your content.

7. Click Preview Draft. After previewing the draft, click Submit to save the page to CMS.

8. The page has been successfully saved to the CMS. You must now Publish your page.

9. Select one or more of the outputs to Publish to the destinations selected.

It is our suggested best practice to Publish first to only the Staging destination. Once you have reviewed your page on the Staging environment, you can then Publish to the Production destination.

Naming Conventions and Best Practices

  • System Name:

    • Use lowercase letters only

    • Use hyphens instead of spaces

    • No special characters

    • Example: about-campus-resources

  • Display Name:

    • Can include capitalization and spaces

    • Should be clear and descriptive

  • Content Structure:

    • Use meaningful section headings (H2, H3)

    • Keep paragraphs concise and accessible
